They're both right. They were variously called the Continental Army, and the Army of the Potomac. At least the most famous ones were.

They mostly had a militia, small bands of local men fighting together, George Washington led the Army of the Potomac, which was probably the most famous militia of the time, because there was no America yet, there couldn't be an american army.
