I think its appalling that a developed country like the USA has so many people in desperate need of care...just seeing them asking questions here when you know that they should be seeing a doctor! Our NHS may not be perfect but everyone gets care...even if there are waiting lists to get on the waiting lists! Compared to USA insurance costs its also excellent value for the consumer.

The major benefits would be financial ( except for those who already get it for free) mostly for the middle classes. The upper classes would pay more taxes. The negative would be that it would be like going to the post office or being taken care of by the people who ran the Katrina clean up. Canada and England have not had success.

Can O Worms, baby! I am pro nat'l health care. The cost of medical care without insurance is exorbitant and sometimes damn near impossible to get. The cost of private insurance is exorbitant! Health insurance through my employer costs me $240 a month. This might not sound like much to some but I am a single secretary and pay flat out for everything. On top of my premium there are out-of-pocket expenses and co-pays. I saw nat'l health care work first hand when I lived in England. If you need glasses you get glasses, if you need hospitalization you get hospitalization and not wind up in the poor house when you get out 'cause you can't pay for your care. The argument is that they pay so much in taxes...I worked over there and I payed about 1/3 of my paycheck to the government...guess what -- I do that now and still have to pay through the nose to get medical care.
