Simon and Garfunkel said it all in "7 O'clock News" (40 years ago!!!):

This is the early evening edition of the news.
The recent fight in the House of Representatives was over the open housing
section of the Civil Rights Bill.
Brought traditional enemies together but it left the defenders of the
measure without the votes of their strongest supporters.
President Johnson originally proposed an outright ban covering discrimination
by everyone for every type of housing but it had no chance from the start
and everyone in Congress knew it.
A compromise was painfully worked out in the House Judiciary Committee.
In Los Angeles today comedian Lenny Bruce died of what was believed to be an
overdoes of narcotics.
Bruce was 42 years old.
Dr. Martin Luther King says he does not intend to cancel plans for an open
housing march Sunday into the Chicago suburb of Cicero.
Cook County Sheriff Richard Ogleby asked King to call off the march and the
police in Cicero said they would ask the National Guard to be called out
if it is held.
King, now in Atlanta, Georgia, plans to return to Chicago Tuesday.
In Chicago Richard Speck, accused murderer of nine student nurses, was brought
before a grand jury today for indictment.
The nurses were found stabbed an strangled in their Chicago apartment.
In Washington the atmosphere was tense today as a special subcommittee of the
House Committee on Un-American activities continued its probe into anti-
Viet nam war protests.
Demonstrators were forcibly evicted from the hearings when they began chanting
anti-war slogans.
Former Vice-President Richard Nixon says that unless there is a substantial
increase in the present war effort in Viet nam, the U.S. should look forward
to five more years of war.
In a speech before the Convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in New York,
Nixon also said opposition to the war in this country is the greatest single
weapon working against the U.S.
That's the 7 o'clock edition of the news,
Goodnight.
Silent night
Holy night
All is calm
All is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.

The more things change, the more they stay the same!

The news media has become as partisan as congress is. Money is what makes the "news" go round. As cable allowed other type of news broadcasting to achieve a foot hold and then a strangle hold on the 3 big broad casters they made a last ditch effort to stay alive. They sold us out. It is all about who shells out the most cash as to what stories are told and how they are told. Any story can be manipulated in ways to further special interest groups agendas.

No longer is news being broadcast as facts and just the facts.

As a society we are conditioned to look at our differences. Our government uses propaganda, public schools, entertainment, controversial issues and religion to warp our minds and separate us. The last thing they need is large numbers of people all uniting for a common issue that are not part of their agenda. If you read Plato's Republic you will find a Brilliant mans explanation of society merely being slaves of the elite. I like the principal of religion but it is still an opiate of the people. Just because the wool per say is pulled down over our eyes does not nessisarly mean that we are not being tended to. Our way of life is not satiable. Our government, Alan Greenspan and many others do unethical things hopefully with the ultimate purpose of trying to maintain our way of living. We must feel it to be inconceivable that profits are not being made by the Elite. One important factor would be to make an estimation of the depth of corruption/profit VS benefits for America's Future.

The Liberal Bias in the Media has gone overboard for way too long. But the effects are in the fact that Don Henley, himself. Dedicated this Song to Rupert Murdock. Founder of Fox News. Even Mr. Henley sees the drums of another Messenger in the Crowd. and they don't appreciate it. Another Class Act, Sir! That's why they pay you the big Bucks!

there is an issue that journalists know bad things get more viewers/readers than good things.

so when a there are two stories- imbezzled money VS progressive charity group that is giving out money, scholarships, and funding programs for the needy
-its better to write about the imbezzlement

when it comes to politics- a politian can do great things but its mostly only their bad deeds that get reported on.
(this isn't saying all politians are just victims of the media, but the media has a 'bad news' slant)

It is the spin on things that makes it deplorable! They try to "make" the news not report it and twist and indoctrinate, for Politically correct reasons! They are the new Tokyo Roses of the news brainwashing campaign, defying you to think for yourself! The only real news anymore is on Blogs and cable! there are no more real Reporters like Mike Royco, Murray or Peter Jennings. So sad and pitiful. Finding new reporters like them would be a breath of fresh air.

you see.. that's the thing.. people like to call the media liberal.. but the fact is they are just doing what is profitable.. and that is talking about Bush... let's face it.. he has shot himself in the foot many times.. and has given so much fuel to the media.. his political party has nothing to do with it.. if he were a dem they would have treated him the same.. all in the name of profit. ... if you want to actually get some decent info on an event involving America you have to go to a foreign new source.. and that's just sad... Capitalism has done many great things for our nation.. but this is one of the negatives..

Dang! Great minds think alike......I was just humming this tune this morning and thought I'd beatchya to the punch by posting Henley's lyrics...........LOL!

To answer your Q--yeah, the media is not too interested in reporting NEWS these days....more like sensationalizing gossip.........whatever sells--(true or not). How many papers do you think the false article in NYT's sold before they 'came clean'?

They like to think they're the 4th branch of government. They've been making stuff up, and blowing it out of proportion, since the Spanish American war... Hearst and Pulitzer created the monster that's still running loose.
