Mar 27, 2007 from Reuters:
MIAMI - Roger Federer suffered a stunning 7-6 2-6 7-6 defeat by Guillermo Canas in the Sony Ericsson Open fourth round on Tuesday, the world number one's second loss to the Argentine in successive tournaments.
Canas battled the Swiss defending champion for two hours 38 minutes in a riveting Stadium court duel that ended when the Argentine sealed victory with a service winner. Canas became just the fifth player to record back-to-back wins over Federer who lost only two hard court matches all last season.
After losing the opening set in a tiebreak 7-2, Federer appeared to finally find his rhythm, easily winning the second set and carrying the momentum into the third to break a fading Canas at the first opportunity to go ahead 2-0. But Canas refused to buckle under the Federer's pressure and leveling the set at 3-3.
Top seed Federer had several opportunities to regain control but could not break Canas, the Argentine maintaining his perfect record against the Swiss in tiebreaks with a 7-5 success.
we will see someday

If they meet again this year, he has every chance. A player as talented as Federer can beat anyone in the world on any given day, but he is only human, so sometimes he will lose. Yesterday's match against Canas was very close, tie-break in the third, could have gone either way. He had many opportunities to break as well. Canas won because he bust a gut chasing everything down. When Federer wins or loses, he always seems to play within himself. Canas, like Nadal, just got enough balls back to bring the unforced errors. Federer just needs to reign his strokes in a little and cut down on errors. He's more talented than anyone else on the tour, so the odds usually favour him.

Canas won yesterday 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 but anything can happen with roger! I think the fans of canas also played a role in why roger lost, i think they got in his head and he didnt really focus as much as he usually does.

Possibly, since Federer would now know Canas's weaknesses very well..he will demolish Canas
In the other hand, Canas wouldnt even compete for the next few years since he would be tested positive for drugs "again"

Yes. Especially if they happen to meet during Wimbledon. Roger has not been playing his typical game, plus Canas was playing very well. Once Roger gets back into his groove, you will see the result that SHOULD have happened the last two times they've played.

I think Federer can, it just matter of time. Canas might have more of the mental edge, but Federer usuallly bounces back on top.
But Canas has improved a whole lot since he last played!

yes of course roger federer will beat Guillermo Canas.... for one thing i know Sony Ericson and Pacific life are great tournaments.. but they are not the real deal like at a grand slam would be.... I'd put my money on it.. if they were to meet at say the french Open, Roger federer would win.. and at wimbledon if they were to meet federer would dismantle him.. obviously the grand slams federer really has his head on straight...
