Mine isn't allergic to it but she was allergic to another medication and all they did was switch to a different antibiotic that did the same thing.

Very few people are allergic to Amoxicillin. It is a synthetic form of penicillin which many people are allergic to, but it was created for the specific purpose of preventing allergic reactions. That's not to say that your daughter is not allergic to it. If she suddenly developed a rash or started itching within a few hours or maybe a day it is possible she is allergic, but it is also possible she rolled in something that was on your floor when she was playing. The doctor will not take any chances with an allergic reaction though so you will probably get something else when you go.

8 months is about the age for those pesky ear infections.

Diarrhea is pretty typical, just watch that he doesn't get dehydrated but the rash... that sounds like an allergic reaction. I'd stop giving it to him until you see the doc again. There are other alternative meds. My son had the same reaction to sulfa based antibiotics, which also made him very cranky (I would be too if I had the runs and a rash).

I'm actually allergic to penicillin and when I was a baby I broke out in hives. Amoxicillin is in the same family, so the doctor might switch your baby to something not in this family of antibiotics. Don't worry though, there are plenty of other medications out there. Keep a close eye on your baby between now and your appointment. If you see anything strange, like he's breaking out in hives or he's having trouble breathing, or his mouth starts swelling, take him to the ER immediately. Good luck! I hope all goes well this afternoon.

yes this has happened to me (when my kids were small )and also my daughter's children now too
If it is a reaction to amoxicillin
this means that she is allergic to all forms of penicillin
ther are good meds out there that do the same trick
your dr. will know and explain it to you

it could be as simple as a rash do to fever though, so get it checked and don't worry too much, this is just the beginning of being a mom/dr.
sounds to me like you are a good one!!!

Both my kids had allergic reactions to amoxicillin, they broke out in a rash from head to toe, and they usually get erythromycin, which is a little hard on their tummys, make sure they get it after eating, it helps to keep it down.

What is the reaction? Hives, rash, itching, breathing or what?
It is not uncommon to have reactions to any type of medication, especially antiobiotics.
They will take him off that and put him on something not in the penicillian family, probably a cephalosporin or erythromyciin family.
Good luck

I had ear infections out the wazoo when I was that age. I don't know if amoxicillin has sulphur in it. If it does he might be allergic to that. He might have to switch him to drops.

Amoxicillin is a form of penicillin and many people are allergic to it. If your son is allergic, there are many other options available so don't worry.
