When I heard the dog and cat food problems were linked to wheat from China I was puzzled as to why the USA, one of the largest wheat exporters in the world would be importing wheat from China which has no environmental laws whatsoever.

China has slave labor.

China has been accused (but never tried) of accounting tampering to lower GNP so that their Yin is valued less than the US Dollar ... making it attractive for the USA to import rather than export.

China is one of the biggest loaners to the USA creating unspoken trade agreements.

China is very similar to the USA economy in the 1950's ... or on the verge of major growth through transportation, public works (dam's), and corporation development. Many USA companies are ditching operations in the USA so that they can operate better without enviromental restrictions and less labor restrictions.
