How do I do this cubic equation??

Okay I don't have the paper with me right now but there is a formula to solve cubic equations. WHERE DOES THE Y COME FROM???? Please help. I'm only doing algebra 2 and pre-calculus so I am A very busy 6th grader with a lot on my hands. Please help!
