Art, in many of its forms, does have a role in my life.
I am a calligrapher...even if I don't have a commission in the works, I take time each day to practice, begin learning a new form, or just make something for the fun of it.
Art, as in paintings, etc., is something I seek out each day, simply to enjoy looking at.
Literature, a passion of mine, has always been a friend, a restful, peaceful part of my life. I have learned mroe about human nature, more about the world around me from reading, and then exploring, than if I were left to my own devices.
So, yes, it has had, and will continue to have noticable influence in my life.

Art has many faces; it could be literature, paintings, sculpture, dance, theater, movies, architecture, etc. although all of these and others aren't art, according to me, unless it communicates a sensitive, intelligent and truthful message, a calling to our higher insights and deepest feelings. It needn't be uplifting or positive, but must rise above the mediocre. In this sense art is part of my daily life, as an architect exploring the art behind the most dazzling designs, reading literature and philosophy of our most brilliant minds, listening to inspiring music and viewing films of the most gifted directors. Unfortunately I'm surrounded by even more garish creations than sublime ones, and this positively assaults my senses.

In today's society, art is a powerful propaganda tool. Art evokes emotions. If the artist is able to elicit emotions from a person or group, the artist has done his/her job. That's why Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible" is powerful. He retells the lunacy of destroying the lifes of Hollywood film makers by branding them as communist during the 1950s. Nevertheless, there was strong support for US Senator Joe McCarthy for getting rid of all communist from the film industry. The reason, the film industry is one of the most powerful communicating means in this world. It is able to evoke people's emotions, thus their opinions. That's power.

The art created with words has always had an affect on me. There are some paintings that speak to me and so far they revolve around stormy seas or women.

Show me somewhere without art, something without art... good luck. Art is all there is.
