there is this plastic clamp that holds two metal hydraulic fittings together. and in the middle of the plastic clamp is a bolt that holds a ground wire and the plastic clamp to the metal bracket of the body of the mower. the bolt unscrewed and the plastic clamp is gone now....can i just connect the ground wire to that metal bracket where it belongs or did the plastic clamp do more then just help support the hydraulic fittings.

The clamp sounds like it was designed to keep the fittings from vibrating against the mower. You can just hook the ground back up--but you may want to secure the lines to keep them from vibrating against the mower. This vibration can rub a hole in the lines.

Plastic does not conduct electricity. Look at it closer to see what is being grounded by the wire. You should be able to connect it back to the metal bracket.
