No you are most certainly not alone, in fact i was in the middle of typing a similar question myself.
This thing has got so bad for me that I feel uncomfortable in my home with my own family. I constantly feel left out and I have no interest in what is going on within my family.
I have friends at work and outside the family who I am comfortable with but I don't make friends easily. So to answer your question. You are not alone, and I would like to say thanks for letting me know that I am not alone with feeling like this :)

I am sure that in time we will get over this.

Not at all. Very common. We all have a lot of different facets. If you can start addressing some of those sad/fearful feelings it might help. Sometimes it's not digging deep down - sometimes it's just about putting on a funny movie or uplifting music to change your mood when you're down. Introspection doesn't need to be a sad or serious thing!

Fear & sadness are unfortunately very common. I think you need to ask yourself a couple of things first:

What do you fear most?
What do you fear most from people?

Me? What I fear most is failing my own personal outrageously high expectations. This makes me sad, which makes me unhealthy physically and that makes me even more sad. What I did recently was create some more attainable immediate goals. Since then, although I've had some serious health issues, I'm a happier person.

Identify your fears as best you could and confront them head on. I'll bet they won't look so bad then...!

Ask back if you need to.

Your not the only one. Don't be afraid of people, don't worry about what they think. Do work on your problem by being around people and take a break when you need to.

I'm not afraid of people, I'd just rather be by myself. I'm fully satisfied with my own company but if someone wants to talk to me then sure I will. But I don't need to be surrounded by others to feel happy. But maybe you should try consulting a doctor. It could be that you have some sort of social anxiety.

well it sounds like social anxiety. i have had this for years, and I'm in Spain now, and its gotten really super bad. people think I'm rude, I'm just afraid to talk sometimes. i like to be alone, because i only feel "right" and relaxed when i don't think anyone is going to bother me.
