HI!!
1. Always wear a heavy-flow pad during your first 3 days of your menstrual cycle. (It's helpful) but if there's still a stain, always bring "agua oxenada" pour/rub it on the stain and it will miraculously disappear:) I've always done this and it's effective:)
2. Symptoms could be a feeling of slight discomfort or even having lower abdominal cramps. discharge could be considered as a symptom too :)

You mention school, so I should think you don't bleed heavily. If you are allowed to wear tampons, then wear a suitable one for the flow, plus a sanitary towel. Use towels with wings so they don't shift around. Also wear supportive Lycra underwear. Make sure you change towel and tampons regularly.
Some of the Symptoms you may experience are: headaches, tummy cramps, sore boobs, moody feeling, sweet cravings.
Keep a record of your monthly cycle to see when you are due, and two days or so prior to the cycle have some pain tablets - panadols, Tylenol, or Motrin when pain is bad.

Well, first look at how developed you are, and that might indicate what months you might get it. Sometimes you might not PMS and get cramps. When I got mine, I had no idea until i felt a little wet...So, keep and extra underwear and pads, and go to the bathroom if you feel even a tiny bit wet
