Why should you support the troops? They are Americans.. and as long as they conduct themselves in a Civil way you should we should all support our countrymen (the rare cases where they are no longer civil.. those individuals lose my support). As for what it means... man can that vary from person to person... some people like to show their support by sending supplies.. or post cards.. or trinkets ... or whatever to make the troops feel more at home.. some like to show others where they stand by placing items on the vehicles.. others enlists.. others donate money.. some join politics... some right their politicians... and still others are just giving lip service....

There are some soldiers in Iraq who are there and are glad to be there. They truly believe they are doing their patriotic duty. There are others who don't believe in the war but because they are in the military, are following orders and serving their country.
I don't think that observing republicans is a good way to understand the troops that are there. The current administration has had over 4 years to get this right and only now are they acting like they want to "win". This war is now a civil war, one we shouldn't be involved in. We've created a monster over there and most people I know are saddened and tired of reading about our loyal troops that won't be coming home alive. Personally, I think the best way we can support our troops is by bringing them home.

If you don't want to support our troops, you are not patriotic. You should support them because they are protecting your sorry butt so you can say the things you are saying. How do you do it? You stand up for them when someone like yourself is asking "Why do I have to?" It means, don't be a wimp and scream that it's time to pull out just because people are dying. The last time I checked, war causes death. Also, World War II had some battles where we lost more soldiers in mere hours than we have in Iraq in over 4 years. Don't listen to the crap saying that WWII lasted a shorter period of time than the Iraq War, WWII lasted a total of 6 years. Just 3 and a half for the Americans.

Why?--If you are an American they are fighting for your continued freedom and to keep our homeland safe.
The troops absolutely care that they are being supported. They are in a foreign land doing a job that many people wouldn't want to do all because they have a job in the military.
You can support them by shaking the hand of a service member when you see them and telling them "Thank you for your service".
My husband is in one of those foreign lands right now, but when he is home, people come up to him and do this. He always appreciates the kind words. It makes him feel like the job that he is doing really matters even though it is viewed as unpopular by many.
There also websites where you can go and send a note, letter, or card to an active duty service member to let them know that you support them.
The Johnboy and Billy radioshow has fundraisers during the holiday season to send care packages to the troops...Check out: thebigshow.com.

Well it means a lot to the soldiers, sailors and marines to know that the people for whom they fight and may die understand the committment they give to their country and people and are respected for those sacrifices of love and life.
If you want to show your support, do so by contacting your local National Guard or other base and see if they have any troops in theater. If they do, then you can put together support packages and ship them over to the troops. I have had a good friend in Baghdad and a brother stationed in Kuwait during all of this and they were quite thankful for the stuff we sent to them. The little reminders of home that make them know they are supported and give them warm feelings of home.
If there are items specific to your region that would be great, but stuff like twinkies, beef jerky, reading material (especially Stuff, Maxim, etc.) and cards from you or classes of kids. Then stuff like creature comforts are always good. The staff seargent at your local base can give you a list of goods to send and give you contact information for other groups sending packages. They will also provide contact information for the troops.

The Bush administration went to great lengths in terms of talking points in trying to tie support for the Bush war policies with support for the troops...prompting a complaint of "not supporting our troops" to anyone who questioned the war itself.
A more concrete way to support our troops would be to make sure that they are receiving adequate medical care, equipment, and supplies. There are several politicians who are working to keep these issues to the forefront. And by responding to demands to support our troops with demands that action be taken to improve their medical care and that care for the wounded is adequate to their needs.

Supporting the troops is not the same as supporting the war, they are just doing a job. The war is a tragedy, and they are caught up in it. Come on support the troops they are mostly young men, who have no policital agenda, they are just doing a job.

It is pretty incredible that this same stupid question keeps appearing here.
Try hard, I know it is against your normal processes but try really hard to think. Now. If someone supports their local sports team. What do they do? Now think hard. If someone supports a political party what do they do? Concentrate, now.
If someone supports the arts, what do they do? Has the light come on yet?
The answer is you do not speak against them but you do speak positively about them, right? You don't try to undermine them do you? You don't take away their funding do you? You might even wear a tee shirt emblazoned with their logo or likeness, right? You might even actually hope they succeed, wouldn't you?
There! I knew you could do it. Keep using your brain and thinking things through like this and who knows? Someday you may even grow up to be a Patriot.

form bucket brigades. we also need citizens to man the lines for reloading. need people to circle the wagons, to cut up their petticoats into bandages and ....oh. wait a minute, we don't do any of that stuff anymore, this is a war fought by professional military forces, private contractors etc.
best way to support the troops is to do what one can to bring the troops back home.

Okay, then why don't you pick up a gun and go fight for our freedom, since you seem to think you know everything there is about supporting troops. Personally, I don't think your twisted corrupted little party knows anything about supporting troops eithers. Or is that why you keep saying you want to cut the troops' funding?
