The more hydrated you are the less clumpy it will be.

Yes, it does have something to do with hydration. But also, the ejaculate is supposed to harden to a gel like consisitency after a few minutes outside the body. You will find that it will liquify again later on.
The purpose for this is unclear for me. That, I'm sorry for. It had to do something about conception and how it helps the sperm to stay in the vagina for a certain duration. It later liquifies, as I said, to mobilize through the woman to find the egg.

There are, however, some health problems. You could be not getting enough vitamins, such as iron or magnisium. Talk to your doctor if you are trying to make a baby. Taking on a better diet will solve this.

While Hydration has an affect on it, Semen will always have a stringy, consistent look/feel to it. The Cowpers glands and the seminal vesicles create about 98% of the stuff in semen, while the other 2% is roughly the sperm. This extra stuff is what gives it that type of feel.
