I've been raised around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex (moreso FTW) and I love the country which means I love to head west out to Weatherford (Parker County). It's not too far from "the city" and it's the county seat with a court house which gives it the country flare. Known for the horse ranches but has everything you would need for a wholesome family atmosphere. Another town would be Granbury (Hood County) in the southern direction from Fort Worth that also has the country flare with the courthouse and good folks. Fun shopping on the square and definitely another fine wholesome town to raise a family and enjoy the country feel. Both of these towns have lakes to enjoy also! They are approx. an hour from downtown Fort Worth. I prefer the Fort Worth end as opposed to Dallas. Dallas is definitely more "city". The Texas State Parks are beautiful!

Denton, TX is a pretty good place....it's just outside Dallas, but is still like a small town.
Austin and some of the nearby cities (Rollingwood and Round Rock, to name a few).
Paris, TX is a pretty good community.

Amarillo....not too big, not too small, and the job market is good. The schools are great also.
