I have a 99 Ford Explorer and this morning when i went outside it wont start. The engine turns, and all lights are working. So I am thinking it is the starter! But how am i supposed to get it fixed if i cant start it to take it to a shop?

It could be a number of things.
ya start at the bottom and go up.
Fuel. Are you getting fuel? the fuel injectors are all connected to a fuel rail. At the end of the rail is a bicycle tire valve, depress the metal pin in the center. If it shoots out fuel, you can cross that off the list.
Spark. Do you have spark? Pull one spark plug wire out, look into it, have someone start the car. If you see a spark, replace it and move to the next one, if you dont see a spark, thats your problem. You could havea faulty ignition, faulty distributer, faulty coil.
If the engine turns over, its not the starter. A faulty starter will just click, and nothing will turn.
Belts. When was the last time you looked at the timing belt? If its broken, the car will turnover but not start.
Also, if youre leaving something out, like its not started previously, we could be talking about a handful of other problems, but if this is the first time, start with fuel.

First things first, a weak battery might work your lights and even engage the starter but not spin the engine fast enough to start, so before you go replacing fuel pumps and other stuff, get someone to give you a boost, if the car starts - its a weak battery, most batteries only last 3-4 years, after that they get weak and don't hold a full charge.

tow truck... OR... get some one to help you.. get a screw driver and find the starter and place the screw driver between the 2 post and it should jump off... get someone to sit in the driver seat to hold the break on.. never know...

by the way.. not trying to be a smart azz or anything... but I have seen this alot.... Does the car have gas? this year about oh.... 6 people tow;d the car into the shop because it wouldnt start.... i played with it for about an hour... couldnt find anything wrong... then I put gas in it and it fired right up... felt kinda stupid....

make sure the key is in the ON position

i own a repair shop, and if its the starter bad on it the engine wont turn over at all,so id be checking to see if it has fire ,and fuel on those the most popular thing was the control module that went dead on them, they would run good one day and you cut the engine off,and they never start back ,that would be what id have checked on it,you may have to get it towed to a shop though,it may not ever start back, good luck i hope this helps.

i wouldnt call myself an expert, just a shadetree mech.lol, but did you check the gas filter,to see if theres gas to the injectors?also see if theres spark at the plugs,it could be either the module or coil,if theres no spark.

sounds like a fuel pump. if it were a starter, it wouldn't turn. if it's a fuel pump it should eventually start. get it towed if you need to man!
