I have a large ridge like mass above my right breast it almost feels like a muscle, I went to the doctor and she said she felt it and sent me to get an ultrasound, they found nothing on the ultrasound and Im just wondering if I feel something then why did ultrasound find nothing? I am 24 years old and saw the "ridge" in the mirror one morning while getting ready for work. Thanks for any help!

get a 2nd opinion, don't play! It can still be something serious even at your age. my mother was just in your shoes, the US didn't find anything either, but the MRI did. After a biopsy, she was diagnosed with Breast CA. Getting a 2nd opinion won't hurt, ignoring it can.

By all means, get a second opinion, if that is what you need to feel okay. But remember that many lumps that you feel are just lumpy breast tissue. If the ultrasound didn't show anything, it could very well be that you are feeling normal breast tissue. Therefore, your ultrasound showed only breast tissue. At age 24, mammography normally won't be very helpful due to the fact that young breasts are usually dense. That means they appear white on the film. Signs of breast cancer (tumor or calcifications) also appear white. It is hard to find an abnomal white area when it is hidden by normal white tissue.

Breast cancer can strike someone at your age, but it is so very rare. Also, if it is a breast cancer and the lump is large enough that you can not only feel it but see it, an ultrasound would be able to see it. Nobody could miss that!

Then schedule an appointment for a mammogram. If you still feel that the ultrasound missed something. I can understand wanting to make sure. Really sure. If you are that concerned, then make the appointment. You can even get a special MRI of your breasts.

I would get a second opinion. Whatever you don't ignore it. Ask for a biopsy of the mass if it really bothers you.
