I know every one says that sex, walking, spicy food, cleaning are great ways to help labor along, but what can i do to get the baby down lower. this is my second, and i am already at 4 cm (was at 3 for the past 2 weeks) but the baby isn't engaged, i am having a terrible time because i suffer from sciatica(and have had to get injections) my back is so bad that i can't move my legs sometimes- and my dr said that I just need to have the baby now to figure out what is wrong with it but he doesn't want to yet for 2 reasons 1) my last labor and delivery was really short he thinks it will take longer being induced and 2.) he wants to wait at least a week (i am only 36 weeks-had my first at 37). is there anything to do to help the baby drop on his own

If I understand correctly, your not really able to be on your feet at this time? So I'm guessing walking is out and squatting for that matter.
They say, keep that in mind, they "say" second and 3 time mothers , their babies don't drop until birth is starting. It's not always the same, so keep that in mind. But making the baby drop I'm not sure there is a way to do that. That's something that happens on it's own or not even at all until active labor as I've heard and read. So for that I have no suggestions.
And your 36 weeks at the moment so you still do have time, try releiveing the pain some, warm baths, a heating pad will add some comfort. If your unable to get to your feet for very long maybe it's best to not even try, change your position where ever you are, if on the couch switch sides prop your feet up, stretch out your legs when ever. I fyou can walk, make it small, it sounds lik eyou may have more pain that way, but you can try walking just to try and start things going. Don't do anything that hurts, don't try and push yourself just to get it over with . If your in pain, your body is saying stop, so do just that and stop. The baby will not come out till they are ready, which I'm sorry to say may not be for some weeks for you.
Sorry if nothing helped, the baby will drop by themselves if before labor, and if not it may even be during labor, it's not the same for everyone and I'm not so sure there is a way to make them drop.
Important thing is right now is for you to be ok, and not in pain, so manage that, as long as you are ok, your baby will be ok. And the doctor seems to want to wait for a reason so maybe you should try and ease up on yourself and do just that. Sorry.

Good luck, try a nice soak and relax if you can.

Get a Pilate's ball - then use it as a chair. This will help align the back and assist the baby in moving into position. It will also help with the sciatica immensely! Good Luck!

Wide hip circles can help with lowering the baby enough to engage the head. Best of luck.
