Take a regular 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. Hold it so the longer sides are top & bottom. Fold it twice, making your folds from top to bottom to make 3 equal sized sections. So it folds in on itself. Thats brochure format. Design on that.

Go to vistaprint.com and pretend like you are going to order brochures from them. You can download their blank template for photoshop. It even shows you where it would bleed off the edges. I have orederd brochures from them myself and was very happy, good price, quick delivery, good quality. They also offer "free" things when you order.

It is a standard 3 column page just use file new and choose from the existing templates there should be several designs as well as a blank. Good Luck!
