Cross stitching. Not only is it a good hobby it makes excellent Christmas gifts. It's nice because you can actually see where you have made something instead of just reading which I like but you don't have anything to show for your time.

One thing I like doing is research on the computer, I get on this and answer 3-6 questions to take up some time, I sew peoples clothes, and do puzzle books. I am not able to work right now because of my seizures, so I am always at home. I try looking for new things to do all the time, but my favorite is sewing. My daughter will be graduating in two years, so my next project is her graduation dress. I am right now making her a pair of pants. The more you do the better you get.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I recently have started to learn the Piano. I figured I could actually learn something while killing time rather than wasting my time. You could even try to learn a new language. You could volunteer your time at a hospital or working with the handicap. If you love to write, you could write a book about your life that you could pass down the family line. There are many different things you could do. Good Luck & God Bless!

Myself, I prefer to do photography for a hobby...i mean you don't have to start out with expensive cameras or anything. Just take pictures of things you enjoy, be creative, and maybe then you can turn the pictures into cash with photo contest or you can develop another hobby in addition to photography by doing scrapbooking. You can give scrapbooks as gifts or maybe if you are good enough at it you could sell your scrapbooking services.

Years ago I laughed a lot at the housewife who saved dryer lint, bleached it and made starched wall hangings. But then, one day inspiration questioned.... Saved a ziplock bag of it, soaked it in water and blended with paper pulp, put in deckle mold. you can dye it, bleach it, paint, etc and make great framable art, bowls. for directions, contact Home Decorating Institute - it's a cheap (darned near free) hobby and can be done year round

Boat building is a cool hobby. It's as easy or as complicated as you want it to be, and you have a cool boat to float around in when you're done.
I like building sculling shells and utility rowboats.
