Why not look at different areas that interpersonal communications take place?
* workplace
* home
* school
* sports club
* bars/clubs
* formal functions
That sort of thing. Perhaps compare the differences and similarities.

I would look at the role of interpersonal communication in marriage and divorce. I would try to see if divorce would be less prevalent if communication were improved.
