They must be honest, loyal and caring. A good friend also accepts you and everything about you and they always make a way to have time with you or to be with you when you needed them.

1) A good friend is someone that will support you, even when you feel as if there is no hope.
2) If they're really a true friend then they will be able to read your mind (happy, sad, excited, ext.) without you telling them.
3) A good friend has to be trustworthy and can keep a secret.
4) They must also be honest, someone who won't lie to you.
5) No one likes a friend who gossips and talks behind your back.
6) Good friends make time for you in their schedules, even when they're very busy.
7) A good friend always offers you help when you need it.
8) It's good to have a friend who makes you laugh.=)
9) Good friends are not jealous of you, even if you're the abosulute best.
10) A friend who is open and a good listener.

i think loyalty, trust and respect are major characteristics of a good friend.
a friendship can't be built on treachery and lies... to me, the best kind of friend is the friend who is loyal, trutworthy, respectable, a person who you can goof around with or advise. a person where i can be myself without worring about him/her judging me or gossiping about me behind my back.

Someone who NEVER talks bad about you..or lets others talk bad about you....or lets anyone tell you someone said something bad about you...someone you can call at 4 am and talk or at anytime...or if there is an emergency..she or he is there no matter what time and no matter what she / he is doing.............
