It's hard to say because these are two different types of games. Halo 3 is a first-person shooter and GTA4 is a free-roaming type game. If you were comparing games like Halo 3 and Unreal Tournement 3, that would be more easily to compare. For selling wise, I think GTA will outsell Halo 3. Simply because it's for the 360 and PS3. Halo 3 is just for the 360.

they are very different games...popularity wise, i think Halo 3 will do better for sure. That is a game that virtually every Xbox 360 owner should have or will get...the first two are ridiculously good and are not old...especially with the new 360 that is coming, more people will buy 360...it will come with a larger hard drive and an hdmi output for high definition tv owners... :)
GTA however WILL come out for more platforms, so it will be exposed to more people...
its a tough match up...
by the way, PS3 owns...

I say GTA4 because GTA had more buyers ever since GTA San Andreas hit the shelves.In GTA you can drive cars and Halo3 is just for XBOX360 and GTA will be available for PS3 and XBOX360 which will be better.

Halo3! I like the fps and the pvp games the best so that is right up my alley.

Apples and oranges. These are two different game types - first person shooter type, and third person action/adventure type. They are both going to be very good games.
