I am a liberal, but, have voted for Republicans, and mostly for Democrats, in the past. When an administration commits errors of judgement on public policy, or worse, why do people still line up behind them like snoring sheep?

Democrats are more willing to vote for a Republican if they are a better leader i.e. CA Rep. Gov. Schwarzenegger> in a state that is 64% Democratic.

Unfortunately, the majority of Republicans are stonewallers that will not possibly ever consider a Dem as a better leader even in clear cut cases.

Another reason is that people are basically sheep and willingly put the blinders on to be a part of something. Few people have the character to admit mistakes or stand strong when all of their friends hold their views in one direction. "Righteous" attitudes about gays, guns, and God lead most Repubs to think they are above all in moral judgement, yet we have gay Republicans in Federal government, and a president who sends his political team into churches on Sunday to grow support for the war.

America is the country of the 'unthinking'. I mean no disrespect, but it is a truth proven time and time again. People make decisions based upon religion, emotion and patriotism...none of these things require thought. It is conditioning and the desire to be told that if they follow along, all will be alright. But sadly, the country is in a terrible mess, both at home and abroad. And people are scrambling around looking for scapegoats. But in most cases, people need only look in the mirror. If they stopped watching sensationalized news commentary instead of proper news and took some time to truly learn about the goings on internationally, they would have a better and more informed vote. Without those things, the same old people with the same old tired lines will be voted into power. And they will have no one to blame but themselves when the suicide bombings come to America in full force. Their uninformed choices will not protect them...

People do not want the responsibility of figuring out for themselves what they (A) believe in politically and (B) what political candidate actually agree with them.

We don't want to figure out anything for ourselves. We have become a society of sheep that marketing has learned how to herd. It is the same in politics.

We don't THINK anymore...we REACT! Just look at this boards questions AND answers. They are for the most part rediculous.

Most don't know how to make their vote count because in the presidential election the president is determined by the electoral college, so your vote doesn't really count right?

That is an example of the understanding of how our government is supposed to work and how it is being worked by the political class that DEPENDS on the ignorance of citizens in order to stay in power.

More people can name the people in American Idol than can name their own Representative in Washington.

The founding fathers intended that the House of Representatives be very powerful in our new government. And our constitution gave we the people, each with one single vote the POWER to hire and fire them at will if they do not protect and defend our constitution.

We have FAILED miserably in exercising our rights and POWER to control the future of our political scenery.

We have, and are reaping what we have sewn.

The president actually doesn't have much constitutional power...did you know that? There isn't much he can do without the consent of the congress.

But we in America have deluded ourselves into thinking that the president is the ONE part of the whole that will make a difference.

That is false hope in a single man and is dangerously close to "electing" someone as a 4 year King. (that goes for democrat and republican by the way). But the King cannot do much to change our country. Yes he does have power, but if the executive branch were stripped back to what the constitution allows...it wouldn't amount to much.

The voice of voters can and should be heard again.

Sadly when people vote, they are voting along a party line that has relieved them of any responsibility to think, reason or logically arrive at a conclusion as to how to cast our prescious vote.

We are becoming happy inmates in a country that is becoming more and more our prison and we smile glibly and call Bush a liar and his administration a regime.

As a people, we need to be ashamed of our record of performing our DUTY and RESPONSIBILITY to be trustworthy of our vote by being indipendent of a single political party's influence.

You want to know the most dangerous thing about America today?

It is the blissful ignorance of her citizen voters.

Parties hold specific political beliefs and propose specific actions based on those philosophies. Just because one administration commits errors, does not mean the other party is more attractive. Especially if they still espouse a political platform at odds with one's own beliefs.

It's about the other choice being more unpalatable.

Not only do they blindly vote for their party , but many people are aligned to a party for one or two issues. Many people will vote strictly for the Republican Party because they are the "pro-life" party even though Bush would never say he was pro-life. They don't realize that this is a wedge issue designed solely to get votes.

Anyone who votes 'their' party concerns me greatly. Party politics are ruining the USA. It developes croniism, political ideologies that have no compromise, deals with special interest groups to maintain power, pork barrel legislation and opens power channels for lobbyists, while it constipates the democratic process and instigates every evil that can exist in a democracy. Think, people, think.

I support Bush but I am not a sheep. I think he is a good man and a decent President. I have read all the facts and searched my soul. I don't want Fox or anything like that. I do not believe he has lied nor his mistakes were mistakes that any other president wouldn't have made in his place.

I think people need to give him a break. If I were him, and I had all his money, I give a double 1 finger salute to America and say "F* ya'll, I'm RICH!" and retire to Crawford for the rest of my life.

I am not sure. I am also a liberal, but liked Reagan a lot. I was actually not nearly as political before as I am now, as I was against invading Iraq from the start and am not sure why this president has never attempted diplomacy with anyone, one of Reagan's strengths.

I don't know. It's really frustrating. I would think that belonging to a particular political party shouldn't preclude you from thinking about each individual situation and forming an opinion based on your own morals and values, rather than the morals and values others lay out for you.
