First of all, If you take away the right to light a flag on fire, is the same as me taking the right to complain against the flag-burning.
Second, A flag is a piece of cloth, the only reason that people are protective of it is the pattern of the piece was marked as the nation's symbol. Some people have a cake made into a US flag and you would take a nice big piece out of the Blue and stars.
Third, How do you fly YOUR flag? Dose it fly at night without a light on it? Is it flying during a storm? Is it worn out or torn? If you said yes to one, you have no right to complain because YOU ARE DISGRACING the flag. In 2000 I wanted to beat up the relay team for draping the flag around their bodies. They were breaking the rules writen by congress on how to treat the flag and it says nothing about flag burning execpt on disposol of a torn and/or worn out flag.

Flag burning is distasteful, rude, and disrespectful. That's not a bannable offence.
Is there some sort of "flag burning movement" taking hold somewhere? Yes, that would be an anti-american remark. So?
So ban free speech, and see what kind of a message THAT sends the world, while we're actively trying to convince them to accept our freedoms.
Terrorists can't win. I mean they literally can't. The most they can do is scare you- and it seems that they have. We don't care what the terrorists think. We don't care if the terrorists will make fun of us. We don't plan our actions based on what the terrorists will do. Don't be a sissy. This is the land of the free, and the home of the brave. Butch up a little, and stop worrying about terrorists.
Don't feel too bad for the president- he's made his own bed. Besides, he's made millions of dollars to console himself once he leaves office. He had us united, and he obviously preferred us divided, because he carefully and intentionally drew the line himself down the nation during his last election. NOW you choose to question your commander-in-chief?
Having your family criticize your every decision is just a part of being a man. Someday you'll understand. The difference here, is that the United States of America isn't a family- we're the most powerful nation in the world. The media has an obligation to report the truth. If there's any shame to be found, it's with a Whitehouse constantly caught in lies.
In short, you're blaming the wrong people, and you're playing the part of a terrorized victim. Stop it. Butch up. After you've fought so hard to defend George Bush- he owes you a little integrity. Demand that from him in his last year in office.

I disagree with flag burning, but it is a right that should be protected. Why people get upset about is what I don't understand. I haven't seen a lot of Americans burning flags on TV. When I see people on TV burning flags, they are usually people from other countriesdoing it in their own land.
I also have not seen Americans burning the president or the soldiers in effegy.
Some people do see questioning the moves of the President as a patriotic act. Sitting in silence when you believe the country is being run improperly is like saying you don't care. Besides, it doesn't seem that the President is paying much attention to nayone who has a different viewpoint anyway.

1st flag burning and now burning soldiers in effigy! This is the generation of the dinosaurs like Jane Fonda! They are the enemy within and should be treated as such with treason in a time of war. Protest yes, turn on your country and it's citizens NO! You cannot shout Fire in a building that is occupied, when it isn't! You cannot incite riots. All Free Speech is not acceptable in that context!
This is exactly how the Wahabist Islamists are taking advantage of Freedom of Speech, just like nambla, thinks that Free speech includes the right to molest children and marry them! Pro Illegal Aliens think they have a right to march through American streets and dare anybody to do anything!

I'm just so sick of those trying to limit my first amendment rights! Shame on them!
Do you even understand WHY we have such rights? It's because our original colonists disagreed with the king of England. Guess what, those like Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, etc. were considered anti-British ... traitors!
Might I point out the Germans prior to WWII? They didn't speak out even when they saw what was happening in their own government.
So no, I don't think you know anything at all about freedom of speech. We not only have the right, but the OBLIGATION to speak out when we feel something is wrong with our government.
Shame on anyone who tries to tell us differently!

Burning an American flag is something that I never understood. Granted that you have the right to do it. Isn 't the American flag the same one regardless of what position you take in any particular issue. If I am against something and I am an American, that flag that I am burning, is my own . In My mind those people are traitors.

You have to be willing to defend the right of someone to express themselves in a way you find reprehensible in order to ensure that you'll have the right of free speech.
Your talking about more than banning flag burning on TV. You're talking about preventing people who have a view point different from yours from expressing that on TV. I can't think of anything more unamerican than that.

Yes, its is a right to burn the flag, but when I see someone burning the flag usually they (US citizen) are protesting ONE thing. I don't see that message, I see someone who is protesting EVERYTHING the USA stands for, including freedom of speech.
There are better ways of protesting than burning a flag.

Burning the flag has been upheld as a symbol of free speech. As Americans, this is one of the rights we enjoy.
You are free to NOT burn the flag, as well as express your opinion regarding those who do--free speech.
