Parents sometimes have a good sense of things. Step back and honestly listen to their reasoning. If you continue to disagree with them try to bring the sides together for some family events (cookout, picnic, etc) so that they can get to know one another.

lol thats going to be a hard one but you wont convince mom and dad for awhile im sure . when we were 18 i was a low life good for nothing go knowhwere smokin drinkin fool.(according to her father) and he was right for the mostpart. then she got pregnant! he told her i wasnt going to stick around long . this was no kinda world to be raising a young one on your own and thats whats going to happen! well im still here 18 years later! but trust me her father would not ! he thought for sure i would leave ! he hardly uttered a word to me for the first 3 years! it took 2 more to get much more than the time of day and the weather out of him ! so there 3+2=5 years! no joke i hope you dont have to wait that long! and dont run out and get pregnant ! that is no way to start your young lives out. get financially stable first ! then raise a family . good luck with ma and pa!

Usually when parents don't trust someone, it's for the best. But if you really dig the guy and want to be with him, tell your parents that you care about him and that he cares about you and that he's everything your parents wanted for you.

you need to follow suit. parents have experienced life and have learned lessons that got them to the age they are now. If tht not knowledge then I dont know what is. they have the ability to smell a rat even if you cant. accept that he is prob 99.9% no good. hopefully, you arent the type who have to learn from experience.

And why would you date a guy that is so stupid that he smokes? Your parents don't like him because they know he just want to get in your knickers. They must be so disapointed that you don't have good judgement.

maybe your parents with their "wisdom" of having been there, done that.........know more than you do....so step back and really take an unbias look.... how do your friends feel about him?
or maybe your parents just haven't spent enough time with him to get to see his good side, suggest having him over for dinner so they can get to know him......
