The Castle Doctrine laws basically undo some seriously flawed "run away" laws. Castle Doctrine actually prevents crime by making a would be assailant think twice before causing someone harm.

The Castle Law Doctrine is the law in 14 other states besides Texas. It was the law in Texas before 1974 when the law was repealed and replaced with a "duty to retreat" law.

No one should be forced to retreat from a place they have a legal right to be (home, business, auto). I should not have to ask a person breaking into my home if they intend to hurt me or my family before I use all reasonable force to stop them.

In Texas, as in 14 other states, we will not be bullied by the criminal scum in our society.

A similar version of the "Castle Doctrine" was adopted in my state, South Carolina, last year and I think it's the best thing since sliced bread! I don't know all of the facts of the Texas version, but in SC you now have no duty to retreat when accosted either in public or in your home, you can lawfully assume that anyone who "enters your home without permission" (I just LOVE the wording of that!) is doing so to cause death or serious bodily harm to you and your family, and best of all, you CANNOT be charged with a criminal offense if the person accosting you on the street or entering your home dies as a result of your defending yourself!

This is a much-needed piece of legislation that goes a very long way in reaffirming the public's right to defend themselves without fear of criminal prosecution, and it undoes a lot of anti-gun laws that were just plain stupid to begin with!

I think it is a great idea. We should never have to retreat in our own homes. If you break into my home you are now a threat to me and my family. I should be able to shoot you and not be punished for doing it. You should also not be able to sue me for it. It is a great law and all of us Texans should support it.
