Depends on what you mean alone with friends- if you are taking them and dropping them off and then picking them up afterwards I would say 13 - just make sure he knows that you will be there waiting before the movie is over. My son was 13 before he was ever allowed to even stay home alone while I went to the grocery store (which was 5 minutes away from our house). My first trip with him home alone was VERRRRY fast.

If you are letting him go with a young driver I would put alot of thought into that before allowing it.

this question depends on you and your own personal thoughts about it
You could always go and sit in the back 1-2 times 1st before letting him out with his friends alone
you have to agree that there is a buddy system even for going to the men's room and that a PARENT has to drop off and pick up
make sure the drop off parent goes into the theater and knows that they entered and what time the movie is ending so you can let the pick-up parent be there in advance to the movie getting out
think child saftey first and always!

I live in a city.. However, I went with my friends before now but there parents would always drop us off or go see another movie. That started around 11 but now I'm aloud to go on my own. I'm 13 almost 14

I don't have a son , but I do have a 13 year old nephew, and he goes to the movies with his friends all the time, well except when he's not grounded for doing the things that boys his age do!

My husband and I decided the age for our children to go out with friends alone to public places like the movies, the pool, McD's, etc. would be when they are 12.

Before that, there has to be some adult supervision.
