a regular lawnmower motor doesn't have the horsepower or torque to make a very good ATV engine. To make something that you'll enjoy riding, you need to get a dirtbike engine.

Anything is possible. but there considerations that you might want to check. Most of the lawnmower engines are vertical and most of the atv's use horizontal engines. You will need significant modification to mate both. Other safety consideration is the "kill" switch" . Make sure you have a sure way to kill the engine if needed.
In a difficulty scale, I would consider this a easy-medium task.
Spend some time in the planning.

sure, but let's say u have the motor. it would be best drive mode by centrifugal clutch. I say build your own from a go cart. Just get big tires. that would solve the weight problem compared to a real ATV. be single gear and have a party to figure out the scavenging. Sounds like fun

I am sure a lawnmower motor could be rigged up tp to work. You wouldn't have a transmission and limited power. It would be cheaper to just get the correct engine for the quad.

Sure you can. But unless the lawn mower engine is at least 5hp, the quad won't have much power to go up any hills or through sand and won't go over 20mph.
