I have asked my wise and wonderful father and he has explained that 95% of the people that watch American Idol are gay. They apparently tune it to watch Simone Cowell wear the tight Baby-Gap t-shirts because that is the only interesting thing about the show. The other 5% are the women that gay men have tricked into marrying them so that they have a cover.
