Are you possibly referring to the word melee?
It has a few different meanings.
1. Small diamond pieces/chips
2. Massive disorganized mess of people or things
3 One-on-one fighting match with or without weapons
4. A massive mess of people fighting, but not as a team against a team but everyone just beating the snot out of everyone.
