I just read a response that the US is divided, thanks to the dems. Do you believe this? And isn't that sort of comment furthering the division? How about we realize that it isn't either you agree with us, or you are the problem? Sometimes this is exactly why I dislike this admin so much...I never knew another admin to call americans 'terrorists' or scare america into thinking that a vote for one party was a vote for the enemy...it is toxic language (whether you agree or not) and serves no purpose but to feed the animosity of the extreme right. So, do you blame dems for the division in america? Or is it really the inability to COMPROMISE?

I guess I should brace myself for a democratic president. great. Man, I wish I had my party back...the party of ideas, theparty of action, the party of accountability...the party of uniting our country. RIP, Reagan, Ford, and Goldwater.

How about this twist? I think that in some ways the two parties are divided on too damned little! They both cater to their big-money contributors and their extreme fringes. Iraq, taxes and social issues do have importance, but where would one go if one wanted to support a strong border-control, anti-globalization and outsourcing of jobs candidate?

I'm not necessarily even saying that these are all good things to support or not - just that neither major party seems willing to support these issues.

As for the rest, I think the public is indeed genuinely divided, deeply and evenly, on a lot. It has been for several years. It's been about a century since there have been so many close presidential elections in a row, I think.

No, I don't blame Democrats exculsively, or the Republicans exclusively. I don't quite know who to blame, or whether blame is even the right term.

The people are divided. If a consensus builds - as it may be to withdraw from Iraq (although we could argue polls) or on other issues, we won't seem as "divided." One side will have won.

I don't know whether that will happen anytime soon.

PS I should point out also that the issues I mentioned - immigration, outsourcing - are not "fringe" concerns. HUGE segments of the public generally have NOWHERE TO GO on these issues, as far as the major parties are concerned, it seems. Has this ever happened before? If so, what was the eventual outcome? Again, tangential to your question, but maybe it spurred me to ask my own when I have time.

PPS You're too kind! No need to, you know, . . . Thanks though. :)

Who blamed the Democrats for the division in America? A Republican!

During the Clinton presidency the nation was not as divided. Even though the Republicans spent the entire eight years screaming about infidelities, and vilifying the wronged wife at the same time, Clinton tried to be nonpartisan.

The exclusivity of the Bush administration will result in yet another Clinton presidency. I am sure that the Republicans will once again shame themselves before history with their over the top vilification.

I am also sure they will blame the victim. Rapists always do. Hillary shouldn't have such provocative ideas, they will say. It arouses us, and we HAVE to attack her.

The conduct of the conservative politicians and the corporate media who report on it are what has divided this nation. Americans are not stupid, and they value fairness above all. The stress that a partisan, dishonest government that refuses to govern for all of the people has caused them concern.

Fortunately, there is a way to fix that. The voters sent a message in 2006, but it was ignored. The message in 2008 will be a little louder, and will probably not be understood either. Arrogance and stupidity are a dangerous mix.

I think both sides are pretty equal in using divisive tactics to keep people separated and I believe the leadership in both parties endorse this type of behavior. It is much easier to lead people if you keep them focused on something other than what you are actually doing. Especially if what you are doing might be considered harmful or destructive in some way. I expect this behavior from politicians in general, but I find it distressing that so many otherwise average intelligent people are so willing to become avid pawns in this little charade. It would be nice if we could come together and agree to discuss first, then agree to disagree in absence of consensus for the good of the country as a whole. Unfortunately, that is a perfect world situation and we all know that we do not live in that world. We have become a society where if it doesn't fit in a 30 second soundbyte we don't have time for it.

You Americans are really quite nuts sometimes. You shouldn't be 100% unified on everything. Division is important to highlight faults and problems with each side's plans, suggestions, et cetera. Divisions in ideals and ideas is a key part of any successful democracy.

Also, how can anyone suggest that the Democrats empower the terrorists? How do they do it, by saying they don't approve of the way that Bush is running the war? The terrorists don't sit there and say, "Hey, you see where the Democrats in the US are speaking out against Bush? Well if that's the case, I'm going to go out fighting now."

No i don't believe it's the Dems. i do see the inability to Compromise. There Is no agreeing to disagree. People take things to far. Main stream media, extremists, and i would like to say the weak minded are the cause of this country's division. Then again what do i know? I refuse to believe the division is the dems fault.

It's good to have more than one view on subjects. Hopefully They are rational and logical views. Not ones that is influced by propoganda and fear.

No, I don't blames the Dem's.

I think both sides are equally responsible. Our political process has devolved to the point where Republicans and Democrats seek the destruction of those who don't agree their world view. There seems to be a complete inability to recognize or even acknowledge the "good intentions" of the other side. It is all about "demonization".

And as a result, there no longer seems to be room for honest compromise.

The inability to compromise is on the Republican rich man's Party's side. We can't compromise on our differed religious beliefs because the R's want to force us to bow down to their religious opinions of hate, war, depriving the poor. Coldness, cruelty and meaness was NEVER a part of Jesus's message. IN fact, it was the exact opposite. They believe in the same things as the group in Iraq that think women are objects and possessions instead of real human beings with rights. That THEY are the only ones going to heaven, when it is that belief that shows they do not know Jesus at all. In fact the whole point of the Republican's religion is to rebell against GOD. You can tell by the way they treat his people here in the U.S. And glorify their own manmade opinions. Man's ways are not GOD's ways. Sorry, there are no virgins for you after death. In fact, they say there is no man-woman relations at all in heaven, but you won't miss it like you would here on earth.

Yes, since the 40's the dems have followed a game plan, divide americans into groups not individuals, pander to their human greed to get them to vote for you, keep people in victim groups and attack the enemy, which is anything that is not socialist.

It is the primary party plank, divide and conquer. Below is a link that will show you the plan they have been following for over 40 years. I would like you to point out if any of these points is not part of the dems plans.

No just defferent beliefs, but these beliefs fall on the side of democrats and republicians. I'm for whatever is better for America, and we need to be united. I just fall on the side that I think the republician beliefs are better. Just for the reason that terrorist were hoping for a democratic win in congress, and were excited when it happened. What does theat say.

Most of all I blame the media too

I heard a story once about an old man.. he woke up one morning.. took a deep breath *sniff* and said.. man.. my room stinks... then he walked into his kitchen.. again took a deep breath *sniff* and said man.. my kitchen stinks... he proceeded to do this threw the whole house until finally he said "man, my whole house stinks"... so the man decided to go for a walk.. he stepped outside.. took a breath and said... "man.. the whole world stinks"!

too often we have a tendency to place the blame where it doesn't belong.. never once questioning if we are part of the problem or the solution.

and yes.. calling Americans terrorists for having a different point of view is the most un-patriotic act I can think of.. what would the founding fathers say about such a lack of tolerance... granted we should all use logic.. and plenty of people are going to have bad ideas.. but the point of America is that we get to have our bad ideas and our good ideas... and we get to express them all.
