Annuals are plants that live for 1 year or less. There actually are two types of annuals. Summer annuals grow from seeds in spring/early summer, flower, produce seeds and die all in the same season. These are what most people think of when they refer to an annual. A second type of annual is a Winter annual. Winter annuals are plants that germinate in late summer/fall, go dormant in winter, then flower and set seed next spring, generally dying as summer approaches.

An annual plant is a plant that completes its life cycle in one season. The plant will flower and seed and die and will not come back the following year. Annuals must be replanted each year. Some will reseed themselves but dont count on it. You can also gather the seed and start your own plants for the following year.

Annual means yearly, therfore meaning they need to be planted yearly. Some produce seed which you can scatter in the fall or spring so you can reseed instead of rebuying and replanting. But ya annuals need to be redone every year. have a good day!

It means they only thrive for one season, they don't come back without being re-planted.
