Is there any way of making an exact copy of a computer so that if it becomes inoperable, you can simply load your "clone" from an external hard drive into another pc and have it up and running, WITHOUT having to re-install separate software programs?

Yes you can. You just need to do on image of your hard drive. There are several programs that allow you to do that, here are some:

But you should remeber ofc that it will be an complete copy of your current computer, so all drivers etc will allso remain the same. So if you put it to an computer that has diffrent hardware set up, you will have trouble debending how much it differs from the original one

Yes. This program is very good and will burn the stuff to as many CDs/DVDs as needed. Also, the CDs/DVDs that it makes are bootable, so you can restore the stuff without needing Windows. You can even restore to another computer, or a new hard drive. (I don't think the trial expires.)

They also have a program you can use to restore and view the individual files.

well you can make a "ghost" of the Hard drive. you can use norton ghost for that.

As far as hardware. yah you can buy billions of your computer if its a major brand.
try www.ebay.com lol

if it's a custom built computer (one that you've built yourself) it's going to be harder. but remember. you are not the only one that owns your style of computer.

i built my computer from the ground up. but i ran into someone on the interenet with the same power supply chassis (case) motherboard and cpu. the odd's of that happening are like 1:800,000 or more.

Yes you can, this operation is called backup actually. I'd recommend you to take a look at True Image. True Image is very reliable and easy in use backup program.

Unless they have "exactly the same hardware", generally speaking, the answer is:No.

You aren't trying to install Windows illegally, are you???

If you have a legal Windows CD, just back up your personal data regularly. Cloning has it's own set of nightmares.
