Like when someone else rushes into the cab you flagged down;Like the sales assistant who looks at you like you cant afford the garment you just picked up; rude stewardesses...on one hand I tell my children to deal with bullies firmly and on the other I am speechless when someone is rude to me for no reason...what do you do?

Bluntly but in a controlled voice simply state that their comment or action was rude. People have made it a habit to be rude ans brash to get what they want. We tend to ignore it and turn away. The next person they inflict their attitude on might not deal with it as well as you do.

Generally ignore it. It's not worth the time and energy it takes to provide them with a response.
Just because they're jerks, doesn't mean I am.

i think as long as you are polite to people they can have no reason to be rude to you. If they are then i would just ignore them-they would not be worth my time-i just have the comfort of knowing that they'll get what they deserve.

I learned from my mom, to be very loud but firm and polite in pointing out what the other person has done, embarrasses the hell out of them.
