i keep seeing people saying "this is my emo picture." I dont get it. What is emo?

when kids look away from the camera,they look all sad,when the camera is up away from them and they are looking down,when all you see is there hair in their face,when they aren't facing the camera at all

an "emo picture" would be a picture of someone dressing like an emo person, with the typical emo hairstyle, clothes, etc...

I looked emo up, and it says it's a type of rock music. Kinda like heavy metal. I've also seen picture's like this. It's somewhat disturbing!
