I have owned both, and a couple of different models of each. I would have to say they are dead even.

HP printers are cheaply made and tend to conviniently break right after your warranty is up. HP has poor customer support and wants to charge you 20 dollars per call to tell you that your printer is broken. I've been unfortunate enough to work with many HP printers over the years--save your money.

I haven't had any bad experiences with Epson, but I haven't had many experiences with Epson at all. Still, they're not HP, and I don't think it's possible to be worse than HP.

My printer brand of choice is Minolta.

HP all the way.

PC Magazine's Readers have awarded HP the Reader's Choice for customer service and reliabilty for the past 15 years in a row.

If you are looking to purchase a new printer, might I suggest the HP Photosmart C5180. I bought this printer and it is the best printer I have ever owned. A set of ink costs $36 and is enough to print between 400 and 600 color documents or 240 photos. This printer copies, scans, prints, and does great photos (has and LCD screen to print and view your photos without a PC). It uses individual ink cartridges so you just replace the color that runs out.

you know I can't give you a answer on that. It depends on how expensive the printers are. on the very cheap end. it may be HP but on the high end it's Epson.

Read some reviews on printers. you can pick up a PC-WORLD or a similar magazine for about 5$ in any store.

It depends on what you are doing. If you are using it for printing text docs then HP. If you are printing photos then epson. I also would recommend epsons scanners as well. Hp is just not there yet.

I personally like HP. I've had more printers from them, not many problems.

Epson is better specially in running costs. The cartridges are a lot cheaper.
