I have a pretty large plot to work with and i have never done a vegetable garden yet. I am looking for different ideas for root veggies that can be stored for long periods of time or frozen. They have to be root veggies or the dog will eat them. Any ideas or sujestions about veggie growing would be great. Thanks!

The dog would eat tomatoes and squash, etc on the vine??? Wow, funny dog. You can grow many root veggies, but if you want to freeze them, that's a different story. What I would suggest is to cook up dishes with veggies you do plant then freeze the dish or leftovers. Try carrots, sweet potatoes, yams, parsnip, turnip, radishes, beets and fennell (the root is very good in stews and veggie dishes) p.s. Plant all root veggies right now

Personally, my favorite veetable to plant, is carrots. First, that is a favorite vegetable for me, and I have had three carrot patches in my life, and each time there has been a rabbit show up to eat the green tops. The first time was a jack rabbit, the others were rabbits that had apparently belonged to neighbors, that got out and came to my yard to enjoy the carrots. Another veggie-potatoes. Onions too. Take care.

It depend on the kind of soill you have and weather. Root veggies don't grow in hard soils. April would be a good time to plant them when tempreatures are really not very hot.

veggies are easy, they need no care at all, just make sure you prepare your bed, dig it over and rake it thoroughly before you plant. Potatoes, turnip, parsnip, carrot, onion, garlic....
