In theory this is true but the problem is that there are so many things that affect a woman's menstrual cycle that it is impossible to know for certain when you are capable of conception and when you are not.
Stress, body temperature, irregular sleep patterns, medication, use of alchohol or drugs, travelling through time zones, diet, illness, in fact anything that has an affect on the normal workings of your body will have an influence on your menstral cycle.
The golden rule is that if you do not want to become pregnant you should not have unprotected sex. Either adopt some form of contraceptive or make sure you use a condom. If you intend to have sex with more than one partner or if you are unsure of your partners sexual history you would be best advised to use a condom as this will help protect you from Sexually Transmitted Diseases as well as guarding against unwanted pregnancy.
Also do not allow yourself to be pressurised into sex without appropriate protection. If you do not want to get pregnant do not agree to have unprotected sex no matter what the circumstances are. Remember it is your body and your right to aggree or disagree to engage in sexual activity. Provided you are sensible and take the appropriate precautions you should be able to enjoy sex whenever you want without the worry of becoming pregnant.
Talk to your doctor or health advisor to find out the best options available to you. Not all forms of contraceptive suit all people. If and when you decide on the right method of protection for yourself make sure you use it correctly and you should not have any problems.
Hope that helps you.

You are correct. The problem is knowing when that time is. People who use the rhythm method try to hit those ok times, and wind up with a number of children. The other issue is STDs. That's a good enough reason for using protection.

No that's not true. Anytime you have sex without protection you could get pregnant.

That is true, but the "time to conceive" (right around the time you ovulate) may vary from woman to woman and cycle to cycle.
Better safe than sorry.
