I'm in a role reversal marriage where I am the sole breadwinner and my husband stays home and does all the homemaking (cooking and cleaning).

I don't cook. We agreed my husband would do this - and he is doing better than I would (except for too much Hamburger Helper). However, many people assume that I cook and it is my responsibility. What are everyone else's thoughts?

This is just fine as long as you and your husband are okay with it this way this is fine. They should not assume or judge you and your marriage at all. Being a woman does not make it your responsibility to cook. They need to keep their noses out of things. My husband does most of the cooking around here as he is a much better cook then i am . I take care of the kids and do dishes and things like that though. We have been this way for years and it works for us. I help him alot with meals though as we will prepare them together at times.

I too am in a situation where I am the "bread winner" of my family. I can cook, however I can't stand it. I prefer to clean up the kitchen after the cooking is finished. My husband is a much better cook than I am anyway. Thank you.

My husband and I both work. I do most of the cleaning, he does ALL the cooking.
He likes it and is much better of a cook then me. So be it. People LOVE to come over for dinner because he is so damn good at cooking, and if I cook, we usually end up having to order pizza.
People who make fun of you for not cooking or your husband for cooking are idiots. Ignore them.

For the same reason they would assume the guy would be the breadwinner and the woman would be the one who takes care of the house.....stereotypes. For years, that was how it was. People used to assume my ex-husband was the one who took out the garbage and mowed the lawn....yeah, I wish!

Don't let it bother you...who cares?

Hooray for you and your husband. You have made decisions that are best for your marriage. Who cooks is not essential for the fulfillment of a marriage. Whoever cannot understand this needs a mind meal of Reality Helper.

Nope, not your responsibility. Sounds to me like you have a good thing going and what others think is irrelevant. If a woman is brow beating you she is probably jealous. The others will help your husband come up with new recipe ideas.

Because of TV would be my best guess. Do you notice that most movies or TV shows that women cook. I understand where you're coming from. Because to be honest I suck at cooking I have to get my boyfriend to cook for me. He teaching me how cook my favs and his favs. I think its stupid that people think women are surpose to cook. When some of us either hate cooking or we just suck at it. GOOD LUCK in the kitchen.;)

Lol.
I totally agree.
Its just many men wont admit they are like "housewife"

Its not embarrsing for a women to say she does all cooking and cleaning, whereas men they are embarrssed about it and, they are usually the main breadwinner, incharge of all income.

I switch off everynight with my partner and we split the duties. Before I was married and all my x did was sit on the couch and I worked 2 jobs and took care of my son and she did nothing and I was overworked. Splitting the duties is not stressful and it has some variety to it all

Please, people are crazy, If you want to try to cook because you like it then go right ahead, but not because it is expected of you. And pd, what it the secret! I can barely get my husband to throw away the trash and clean the litter box.
