What qualities do you feel inspire loyalty?
Many companies think that employees should be loyal simply because they get a pay check. It doesn't work that way.
People need to believe that the company is loyal to them. That they have a stake in each others future. That there dedication is recognized and rewarded.

I have a friend who owns a business and asks the same question. It is because they are unwilling to pay a wage that will support anything but a single lifestyle. They ask commitment, loyalty, and hard work, all for a wage that will not allow them to buy a car, have a family, a home, and pay the bills. Employees will leave to go somewhere else for .25 and hour because it makes such a difference. Eleven to fourteen dollars an hour is not a living.

Many times there is not a mutuality of benefits existing between the employer and employee.
In other words, are your expectations realistic for the pay/perks you offer?
The job market is very competitive and qualified people that ARE loyal, dedicated, committed usually leave for firms that offer a better benefits package....Mutuality of benefits between employee and employer is key to acquiring AND maintaining employees.

Amen to Ernie! Most employers consider employees to be throw aways, even long term ones. If you don't treat employees well, you don't inspire much dedication or loyalty. It is a bit of a catch 22, BUT, if employers try a little respect, they will like get some in return.

Most of today's young people look at a job as a temporary position, at best.
You would be much better off interviewing older people who have the experience and willingness to work for you.
