Armageddon is a very profitable business that has ben around for thousands of years. Is you can convince people that you know when the world will end and only you can stop it or help a few people survive it, then you have power over them and power is a basic human desire.

Frankly, I believe that Armageddon is likely to happen, I just don't know when. Statistically speaking, with the millions and trillions of large rocks whizzing around in space, and with Earth having a gravitational pull, it is very likely that we would be hit by a large flying rock in the future. After all, asteroids have already hit Earth before, and is likely to do so again. The reason we have survived so far is because we have an atmosphere to burn up small space debris. However, a day will come where the atmosphere is unable to destroy a large comet before it hits us.
But as to why people keep on harping on this subject, I'm baffled too. why worry about something that might happen tomorrow or in a thousand years? The way I see it, we should just let life be. If we think that we would die tomorrow, we would never have plans for the future.

Its not a "made up" prophecy - its found in the Bible. It's not some nuclear destruction that will destroy the world and everybody in it. Its a righteous war when all wicked people will be destroyed. Many Bible prophecies are being fulfilled in our time....such as 2 Tim 3:1-5, Matt 24, etc. The Bible holds the answers as to why the world is in the condition its in, how we can cope now, and how we can benefit in the future. Only the wicked will be destroyed at Armageddon - not everyone. Its a time to look forward to, not dread!

It's a little like seeing a bad car wreck, you cannot help but look. So the idea that a horrible catastrophy will someday happen can be strangely attractive to some. But near-earth objects threatening to cause mass extinctions continue to provide close calls, but someday one rock might get past us and actually do the job.

Armageddon was kind of quirky, but I wouldn't say it's stupid. Ben Affleck saving the world? It takes a little imagaination, but I liked it anyway.

No they can't, and calling them stupid probably won't convince them otherwise.
Why do you care what they believe? If they want to think the world is coming to an end, then every day will be a constant surprise to them.
