I was just wondering if a loose spark plug can cause a car to break down on the side of the road?

Doubtful.

It may cause it to run bad, but not make the engine quit running.

yes it can ,i own a shop, and it will cause one to stop running especially on a 4 cylinder engine, one plug on them stops firing, good, and it will fall on its face, and you may also have other problems with it ,but yes if you have a real loose plug that can cause it,it might be time to give it a good tune up,this sounds like the right time to do this, good luck i hope this helps.

the car would RUN hard or rough... I have never heard of one stopping....

I doubt it would as you have 5 or 7 other cylinders running...

I would guess if the car runs when it is cool then stops when hot it would be a senors.... on some older cars this can happen... for the life of me I cant remember the name of the senor.... which sucks.....brain fade

Generally no, but if it pops out you'll have a problem, and it can damage the threads when it does pop out. If its just slightly lose it shouldnt have a substantial effect on the way the car runs.

Yes it can, the engine loses compression and power, this could cause it to stall.

it shouldnt cause it to break down, but you will lose power and not run too good.whats wrong, cant you just tighten it back up?

No it won't. But it will make the engine miss fire like the dickens.

yes - it would misfire and not run right - possibly causing you to break down
