You're getting a baby zebra? hmmm...
I suppose you could ride it just like any horse.

Have you seen the movie Racing Stripes? It is very cute, you may like it! It is about a Zebra who thinks he is a horse. He ends up getting trained to race. They show the girl riding the Zebra, so it must be possible to train them to ride, as there is at least one riding zebra out there.
Starting right from the beginning is good, as you will get it used to humans and it will trust you. I would read up on zebras and see how their herd dynamics works. I would also read up on saddle breaking horses, as that is as close as you can get.
I would think zebras wouldn't be able to carry as much of a load as a horse, so I would get a light saddle, as light a saddle as I could find.
Good luck. I am not sure how you came to own a zebra, but if you do get one, that is pretty neat!

hi,
i have heard that after three generations in captivity zebras become very domesticated. People break in wild horses in Australia all the time and foster them to new homes. so i suppose if you could get past the temperamental thing and break it in then you could ride it. I have seen it done before. HOWEVER if you look at a zebras back compared to a horses back the zebras back is flat... so you could break it in and ride but would not risk riding for too long at one time as it could harm the zebras back. A cross between a horse and a zebra is much more desirable (a zorse) as it is more ridable. Also a zebra would be more suited to harness (i have seen it done before).

If you get a young zebra and train it then yes you MAY be able to ride it. You may experience difficulties but I can't imagine it would be any different than a mustang adopted right off the range.
There are people who breed Zorses (Zebra/Horse cross) but I do not know how successful they are.

Zebras are rideable with proper training but you need to keep in mind that they carry more wild instincts then horses, donkeys, or mules. They require alot more time & patience to get them past their "flight". They also mature differently then a horse so physical aspects need to be considered to. My suggestion would be to do your research...go online & find someone that has hands on expierence with everything your going to encounter with your Zebra...Make sure you know your facts & are comfortable with everything before you start. Good Luck!

Zebras are ridable if trained for it. They are much like pack animals, (mules, llamas, etc), but can be trained for riders, just not REALLY large riders like 300+ lbs. We had a place in our town that gave kids free zebra rides on weekends. Besides, didn't you see the movie Racing Stripes???

Zebra? Why on earth would you want to get a Zebra for. It will buck you off it's back and stomp on you if you tried to ride it. It's against most state laws too own one so good luck at getting one.

if you know how to train a horse then i don't see why you couldn't train the zebra. if youdon't know how to train a horse then I say probly not a good idea to try.. whos knows though
I've seen bulls that are riddenthrough hopos of fire. I think anything is pretty trainable.

No, they are not. They are a wild animal and their demeanor does not include riding....
