i agree with the previous posts about you having to set up your network properly. both those computers use the same internet connection at the access point (router) so all you should have to do is run the Network Setup wizard in XP.
You may have to either turn off or reduce the amount of firewall protection you have on both your computers for each computer to recognize one another. This will be either your antivirus firewall or you built into windows xp firewall. anyway, if you have problems just reduce the amount of firewall protection

I do not like wireless things they tend not to work for me so i just use ethernet cables but their should be an option when clinking on a file/ hard drive like C: to "share documents" or it could be in control panel you can choose which to share and which not to share, after you have done this then their should be a hand on the file, if you go into my network places you should be able to access that from the other pcs.

First, share a folder on each. Go to Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer). Select a folder and right click it. Click on sharing.
Ensure each system is on the same network. Go to the control panel, system properties, computer name, and click on network ID. Ensure it matches both systems.
Normally, you can then share files. However, XP has a problem with system notification. Sometimes one system is not visable to another. The easiest way to get past this is to load NetBios. This protocol makes each PC announce itself more often on your network. You can load this from control panal, network connections, double click the network, select properties, click install, select protocol, and select the IPX/SPX/NetBios option. Okay your way out and reboot.

i'm no longer an expert, yet right here is going.. you will possibly be able to wish a community swap. Its an elementary/low value gadget with lots of LAN ports (4). If no longer you should use a community router. enable's think of u have comcast (any ISP) and u have already got a on the spot community router. And the two ur computers are related to a similar router/swap with LAN cables or on the spot n/w. if so... then circulate to My computing gadget> homes>.. someplace u will see computing gadget call and artwork group. the two computers ought to have a similar artwork group. you are able to seek for "the thank you to set artwork group?". as quickly as u have this setup, make certain there isn't any firewall working.. like MS or Zone Alarm etc. purely stop it. circulate to command instant and ping each and each others IP addresses. >>ipconfig /all ..... it exhibits ur IP handle.. 169.254.$$$.$$$ >>ping 169.254.$$$.$$$ .. the different adult adult males IP handle. If achievement... then u must be waiting to make certain the computing gadget, on your community places.. in explorer. If no longer style in ur explorer handle bar... HIS_COMPUTER_NAMESHARED_FOLDER_NAME Pls. substitute the names.. want no longer be caps. make certain the folder is shared. suitable click>Sharing.. etc. there are various different techniques. set up an adhoc community and hook up with the computing gadget etc. slightly complicated in spite of the incontrovertible fact that.. swap/router is acceptable. i'm a Mac guy, so i'm bit hazy in information. Macs can connect straight away over conventional ethernet/lan cable without crossover cable. Its too elementary, as quickly as u pay the value. sturdy success!

your new computer have you went into "my network places" and set the network up with the correct office name and sharing permissions.
plus, have you looked at your firewall to see if that is blocking it.
you could also try to ping your new computer, using command prompt on your old computer - type "cmd" into run and then enter "ping" followed by a space and then your new computer's ip address.
