It is not a full blown diaper rash but the skin around her butt hole seems to always be red. I have tried all kinds of different ointment. How can I prevent this or is that normal. (first baby)

You may be leaving a wet diaper on for to long. or putting on a diaper before babies butt is dry, or baby has a slight reaction to your wipes.

I would suggest letting baby air dry for about 5 minutes without a diaper.

Use corn starch, instead of baby powder, it helps keep babys skin dry.

Use lots of diaper ointment and change babies diaper often. The redness could also be from pushing too hard. If you notice that your baby is having a hard time pushing out his stool, call your pediatrician and ask them what they recommend.

Change more frequently and apply diaper ointment after all diaper changes. A & D is good. It keeps the skin protected from urine and fecies.

From day one I have spread vaseline on my daughters butt after every change and she has never had a diaper rash. This is what the hospital told me to do and it works.
