I am relocating to Boston and will be going up to find a place to live. I will be looking at a great place in the Jones Hill area and would just like some thoughts on the neighborhood. Thanks.

Hey! I live on Jones Hill. It's a great neighborhood. It's probably one of the hottest real estate markets in Boston right now, but Dorchester is still very much a neighborhood in transition economically, so there are people who might have crime concerns moving into this neighborhood. However, it's a very diverse neighborhood filled with people of every ethnicity, sexual orientation and socio-economic background. The train station is very close with easy access to downtown Boston. It's not as walkable as some other neighborhoods in Boston, but it's getting there with more restaurants and shops opening every day.

Everything gilleb says is true. However, there will also probably be other Answerers who will remark how dangerous Dorchester is with a resurgence of drive by shootings that are killing innocents as well as intended victims and that is true too. Dorchester is Boston's largest neighborhood. In parts it changes from quite safe to dangerous within a quarter mile.
