Y = LOGa(X) can also be written a (exponent X) = Y

Therefore,
X = LOG2(16) can also be written 2 (exponent X) = 16

you can rewrite to have the same base
2 (exponent X) = 2 (exponent 4)
note: 2 (exponent 4 ) = 16

you can then you the exponent law
if A (exponent u) = A (exponent v)
then u = v

so you get
x=4

log_2 16 = x
This is the same as saying 2^x = 16
So 2^x = 2^4
So x = 4 because if bases =, the exponents =.
