logaY = X

therefore (1/3)^-5 = 243 >>>>>a^X = Y
log(1/3) 243 = -5 (a is the base of log)

(1/3)^-5 = 243
You can't because the above is an arithmetic expression and not an equation. It has no variable.

You could say log base 3 243 = 5
