Perhaps the USB ports are disabled for some reason. Try (on Windows XP):
- Start
- Control Panel
- System
- 'Hardware' tab'
- Device manager
- Look for 'universal serial bus' and expand it
- Right click on each one and look for something along the lines of 'enable', 'repair', 'install' etc.
Good luck.
ps Even if that doesn't fix it, your problem is with the USB ports, not with AOL.

the problem is that the laptop is not recognising the modem ..try to check if the modem is installed well go to control panel >system >hardware>device manager >check if the modem is listed there and is not having a yellow question mark ...ifit has a yellow question mark or is not listed there then try to install the modem again
if its listed there and is status is enabled then go to control panel >modems >modems Tab >check the list if the modem is listed if not then try to add new >check through the list if the modem is listed >choose the port if several are listed choose all except COM1 and 2 then go back to the listing of the modem check if the modem >properties >diagnosis >Querry modem ..(this will tell you if the modem is really working )
then restart the laptop
if does not improve install the modem drivers again
if all of the above fails check the modem maybe the power is too low to support it some of the stop working when there is low voltage
Once a modem is installed to a specific usb port do not change it to another Usb port

U must do what I did .....
AOL must have a Customer Care ............... call them....brief your problem....and if needed they will come to your house and will surely sort out the problem.
If your problem is a simple one then they will say what to do in the telephone itself.
In such cases AOL is very sincere.....I had AOL myself....technicians came to my house to fix everything up a bit.
Hope your son can log into the Net as soon as possible
