Far more jobs have been lost to technological innovation than to China. Automation in auto, textile and other factories have made workers unneccessary, ATM machines have led to the loss of bank teller jobs, voice mail and voice recognition technology has replaced phone operators, and one guy on a Mac computer today can do the work of an entire design studio of yesterday. Does your teacher advocate halting technological innovation because it leads to the loss of jobs?

China's booming economy with a large population allows them to undercut most other country's labor costs, which set up shop in China. Over the course of the past 25 years, most of American manufacturing companies move their production overseas to reduce their overhead costs to American employees. Today, most of American labor jobs are outsourced, so that the manufacturing is slowing to almost nil. Meanwhile, the Chinese goverment rakes in all the taxes from companies employing Chinese workers.

While it may be savy to think that in the short term, your cutting costs, but your also removing jobs to American workers, who are your final customers. If they can't afford your product, who are you going to sell to? China? Will they want to buy your overpriced crap?

Trade with China is not harmful. With the globe now shrinking due to quicker reach, commerce will flow to the most economical source of supply and demand.

We should welcome this trend. Further, if necessary this will, perhaps, drive economics to become competitive and quality consciouss, thereby providing consumers like you and me, the opportunity to buy the best and the most economical cost.
